If you want a top-notch brushing routine (which is very important to have), then you need to avoid the bad brushing habits. It’s true, there are brushing habits that can do more harm than good. If you avoid those bad habits, you can properly and effectively care for your teeth and gums each day. So, to help you avoid them, our dentist, Dr. Tim Garofolo, is happy to list them here:
-Brushing with a hard-bristled toothbrush: This can harm the smile in many ways. This is because the hard bristles tend to wear down and weaken the tooth enamel as well as irritate the gums, making them pull away from the base of the teeth. This can promote severe tooth sensitivity.
-Brushing too hard: You don’t need to use a lot of pressure when you brush, even though it seems like the harder you brush the more bacteria you remove. You only need light and moderate pressure to clean the smile. If you brush too hard, it can also weaken the tooth enamel and irritate the gums.
-Brushing too long: You don’t need to brush longer than two minutes each time. Brushing longer than that can have the same consequences mentioned before. So, make sure to set a timer while you brush.
